EIS-Jumeirah - High School: Graduation Ceremony 2015

Emirates International School - Jumeirah (EIS-J) hosted the graduation of the Class of 2015, on Thursday, 28th May in the Emirates Theatre on the school premises. Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice Chairman, CEO of Al Habtoor Group and Chairman of EIS Board, Ms. Amna Al Habtoor Director of Schools, members of the school board, together with the other dignitaries and the school Principal, Mr. David Hicks, headed the ceremony.

This year seventy nine students were present in the graduating class, representing twenty nine nationalities.Twenty one of the seventy nine students have been students of the school since Kindergarten. The Ceremony was Anoushka Chowdhary was the Valedictorian, Ghassan Luqman delivered the Arabic speech and Mariam Abdel Wahab delivered the English translation. The Arabic speech and the Valedictorian’s speech were outstanding. The speeches were a tribute to the feelings of the year group, their memories of school and their peers along with, excitement and hope for the next phase in their lives. In addition to the graduating class, academic and service awards were presented to students from grades ten to twelve. The Graduating Class of 2015 is distinguished by many outstanding students. Over ten students are predicted to achieve over 40 points out of a total of 45 in the May 2015 IB Diploma Programme Examinations. We are immensely proud that many of them have been offered places at some of the world’s leading universities such as Stanford, Durham, London School of Economics, Kings College, McGill University, University of Toronto, University of California-Berkely, New York University, and Columbia University. Nearly all members of the class will continue their education at various universities, with the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States proving the most popular destinations. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme results will be released on July 6th 2015. We wish our students every success. They will be missed here at EIS-Jumeirah.

Graduation Ceremony of the class of 2015

The Graduation ceremony for the EIS – Jumeirah “Class of 2015” took place in the EIS Theatre on Thursday, 28th May. This year seventy nine students were present in the graduating class, representing twenty nine nationalities. All 79 students graduated and received the EIS-Jumeirah (EIS-J) High School Diploma. Twenty one of the seventy nine students have been students of the school since Kindergarten.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor, Chairman, Al Habtoor Group, EIS Board members, many proud parents, families, friends and teachers, who witnessed the students receiving their diplomas from Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor, Chief Executive Officer, Al Habtoor Group. The Graduating Class of 2015 is distinguished by many outstanding students. The top academic award, The Khalaf Al Habtoor Award, was awarded to Anoushka Chowdhry who delivered the Valedictorian Address. She has a place at the University of Chicago where she will study Journalism and Political science.

The winner of the Headmaster’s Award for the best all round student went to Ashdeep Seth who will be going to Stanford University to study Mechanical Engineering in Product Design.

Our Deputy Head Girl, Sheikha Majida Al Maktoum, who will study Social Research and Public Policy at the New York University in Abu Dhabi was awarded the International Student Award.

The winner of the prize for Academic Excellence this year was shared by our Head boy Hozefa Basrai and Dhruv Doshi. Hozefa will be going to University of California, Berkely where he will study Business Management. Dhruv Doshi will be doing a double major in Business Management and Philosophy at Emory University.

The Arabic speech was delivered by Ghassan Luqman. The Arabic and Islamic Cultural Award is awarded to a student who is the best representative of Arabic and Islamic culture in an international context. Wafa Aboukadir, who is going to Mass Communication at the American University of Sharjah was the recipient of this award.

The Senior Athletic Award, which is awarded to the student with a strong sense of sportsmanship, was given to our Deputy Head boy Ghassan Luqman who is going to study Economics at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.

The prize for the best CAS programme was awarded to Siddharth Nallakandy Churai who is going to study Computer Science at the Queen Mary University London.

The winner of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Coordinator’s Award which recognises the student in the graduating class, who best epitomises the IB learner profile, was our Head Girl, Meher Malik who is going to study Political Science at Columbia University in the state of New York.

In recognition of the selfless contribution she made to school life Prarthana Kanagaratnam, who is going to study Environmental Geographies, Politics and Culture at the University of Melbourne was presented the Service Award.

The Shahna McPherson Award was established by the students in 2001 to celebrate the life of Shahna who died in her final year at school. Shahna brought great joy to many people but particularly so in her role as a prefect. Each year her award is given to the student who best fulfills his or her role as a prefect. This year the award was given to Reem Bahsoun..

Awards for academic excellence and service to the school community were awarded to one student from each year group in Grades 10, 11 and 12. The very moving ceremony was brought to a beautiful conclusion with a piano recital by one of our talented young musicians, a Grade 10 student, Igor Shcherbatykh and Safiya After the ceremony, the students and their guests were served refreshments in the school cafeteria which had been decorated by the students along with the memories of the class captured in a film playing in the background.
