Accreditation

Since 1998, EIS-Jumeirah has held accreditation with Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) through the Committee on Institution-Wide Accreditation (CIWA). EIS – Jumeirah uses the Accreditation for Growth (AFG) protocol.

CIWA is a bridging division of the Middle States Association addressing accreditation with schools that work with that continuum of students extending beyond the scope of either the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools (CES) or the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools (CSS) alone.

EIS-Jumeirah undertook a Mid-Point Review on Wednesday 14th November 2007.

Why Accredition?

Accreditation is the affirmation that a school provides a quality of education that the community has a right to expect and the education world endorses. Accreditation is a means of showing confidence in the institution's performance. When the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools and the Commission on Secondary Schools act to accredit, it certifies that the organisation has met the prescribed standards of the Middle States Association within the terms of the institution's own stated philosophy and objectives.

The chief purpose of the whole accreditation process is the improvement of education by evaluating the degree to which an educational organisation has attained worthwhile outcomes set by its own staff and community. This is accomplished by periodically conducting a comprehensive self-evaluation of the total institution. Through the accreditation process the school seeks the validation of its self-evaluation by obtaining professional judgment from impartial outsiders on the effectiveness of the total operation. The intent throughout the process is more than to focus on shortcomings; the chief goal is to seek remedies for inadequacies and to identify and nurture good practices.

What is the AFG Protocol

Quite simply, the AFG protocol seeks to change the traditional school culture of primarily focusing on the inputs of school improvement (facilities, program, services, etc.) to focusing on the outputs desired in student performance.

In 2004, EIS-Jumeirah was visited by a team representing MSA for re-validation. EIS-Jumeirah was successful in gaining re-accreditation for a further seven years. As part of this process EIS-Jumeirah is implementing action plans which support these three objectives.

Objective 1: Reading in the Primary

By the year 2011, 100% of Emirates International School Grade 1 to 5 students will demonstrate improved reading skills as measured by:

  1. An increase of 12 months in reading ages between September and May each academic year as measured by the Suffolk Reading Test [External Assessment].
  2. An increase of 100% in the number of students attaining over 80% in the Emirates International School Bi-annual Comprehension Test.
  3. An annual increase in at least three *Ginn Reading Levels for each Primary student as recorded by the teacher Reading Records. [*Ginn is a graded Reading Scheme]
  4. A 5% improvement in the number parent responses to our "Annual Parent Survey" on our reading programme.

Objective 2: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

By the year 2011, Emirates International School-Jumeirah graduates will demonstrate excellent intellectual, social and critical perspective as measured by:

  1. 85% of graduates (Diploma and Certificate) will achieve a total score of 30 points or above.
  2. 85% of graduates will complete the Diploma.

Objective 3: EIS Award Programme (Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme)

By the year 2011, Grades 9 – 13 Emirates International School-Jumeirah students will demonstrate growth in out-of-school self-development as measured by:

  1. 15% of students in Grade 9-13 will earn the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award each year.
  2. 8% of students in Grade 9-13 will earn the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award each year.
  3. 5% of students in Grade 9-13 will earn the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award each year.

Authorisation and Approval

In addition to MSA accreditation, EIS – Jumeirah was authorised in 1992 by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to offer the IB Diploma Programme. During the 07/08 academic year, the High School successfully passed its five year Diploma Programme Evaluation.

EIS – Jumeirah is also an approved International Examination Centre for Edexcel International.

The Primary school is a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of IB.

EIS – Jumeirah is a member of the Middle East International Baccalaureate Association (MEIBA), the British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) organization and the Near East and South Asia Council of Overseas Schools (NESA).
