This allows students to meet with representatives direct from the university and ask questions relevant to their individual needs. Students and parents are also kept informed of career fairs, including those held both in school and in Dubai. Information regarding international summer schools is also shared with parents and students throughout the year. Summer schools focusing particularly on the IB will provide Grade 11 students with an introduction to the IB Diploma and Grade 12's and 13's with revision courses. The following website is an organistaion in the UK which offers such summer and spring courses which EIS-Meadows student have attended and recommend: www.osc-ib.com
Grade 11 – All students take part in the "What Next?" guidance programme during their form period to help them consider their further education options and introduce them to the IB Diploma programme. A careers fair is also held to allow students and parents to meet with representatives from local universities. Grade 11 students will attend various presentations in school from career/higher education advisors, to help encourage them to begin thinking about their future options.
Grade 12 – All Grade 12 students are asked to complete a form which asks them to indicate their ideas and plans for further education. This form requires a parents signature before it is handed in. Although the actual application process to university will not begin until Grade 13 all Grade 12 students and parents are advised to research all possible options this in Grade 12, so any informed decision can be made about where and what to study. However any student applying to the US must begin their applications in Grade 12 as they will be required to sit external SAT examinations. An information evening takes place in November for the relevant students and parents about the SAT exams. Other information sessions will also take place later in the year for parents and students to outline the procedures for applying to other countries.
Throughout the year Grade 12's will also meet in groups to hear advice from their peers in Grade 13 about applying to university. This will also allow them the opportunity to have any of their queries about the different application processes answered. All Grade 12 students will also have an individual career guidance interview, during which they will create an "Action Plan" which will help them outline what steps they need to do with a timeline when to do them by. This will be sent home with students and parents and will be asked to sign and return it.
